Tasked with primary responsibility on behalf of the Foundation in all matters pertaining to production, sponsorship, or participation in conferences, exhibitions and other events. Aug 2008 - Present: Technical Writer, Google Responsible for documentation of internal and external APIs and products. Supported engineers in writing of all kinds, including announcements (via email and blog posts), product plans, and documentation of new designs and features. Worked with software engineers, product managers, and support teams to ensure that Google's offerings were presented in a clear, user-friendly way. Also worked with internal teams to ensure that complex technical information about their efforts could be communicated in a well-organized and accurate manner, to prevent wasted time and re-invented wheels! Sept 2007 - April 2009: Conference Lead, ApacheCon EU Led the organisation of ApacheCon EU for the 2008 and 2009 conferences. Leading the Apache Software Foundation's annual conference in Europe included co-ordinating all activities for the organisation of the conference - from the Call for Papers to talk selection, as well as speaker travel & reimbursement. Involved in publicity and sourcing sponsorship, and dealing with media at the event. Also responsible for managing volunteers at the conference, and ensuring that everything ran smoothly during the event. Sept 2007 - June 2008: Technical Librarian, Joost Responsible for managing documentation, group calendars and information publishing for the engineering teams within the company. Involved in creation and maintenance of documentation, including training engineers, and working with them to improve their language & writing skills. Worked on the interfaces between business & engineering teams, with responsibility for collection & integration of status reports. Took on other tasks as appropriate, taking ownership of the things that needed to be done to ensure others could get their work done more easily. June 2006 - Aug 2008: IT Consultant/System Administrator, Zoology Dept, TCD. Administered and maintained IT systems for a research group working in conjunction with the University of Edinburgh. Consulted on development of new systems, both hardware and software, as well as on installation and customisation of those systems. Provided end user support and liaison with the IT team in Edinburgh. May 2006 - August 2006: Language Assistant, Multimedia Language Lab, LMU. Native-speaker assistant to self-directed language learners. Corrected written homework assignments, assisted learners in improving fluency and expressiveness in written & spoken English, assisted with technical issues with the multimedia programme. July 2004 - October 2005: Localisation Engineer, Office Online, Microsoft. Responsible for developing and documenting processes for management of external links for European languages, and liaising with internal teams (local, US and Japanese), along with external vendor companies to implement these. Also responsible for managment & maintenance of market-specific content from subsidiary offices around the globe, taking this from a time-consuming, manual operation to a well-organised & documented process, covering tens of languages and dozens of markets, and finally outsourcing this work to a vendor team. Education I graduated from Trinity College, Dublin in 2007 as a Gold Medallist, with a First Class B.A. Mod (Hons) degree in Computer Science, Linguistics & a Language (German). I earned a full International Baccalaureate diploma in 2002, achieving 37+1 points. I also completed the Irish Leaving Certificate in the same year. Achievements Technology: I am a documentation committer to the Apache httpd project, a member of several Project Management Committees, and a Vice President of The Apache Software Foundation. I have served as a technical reviewer for several books & publications, primarily related to my work in the Apache community. I have been actively involved in various open-source groups, and have organized events in this area ranging from evening meetups to multi-day conferences. I am a Director and Founding Member of Digital Rights Ireland. I earned my ECDL in 1997, and became Microsoft Office 2003 Editions Master Certified in 2005. Academics: I have won several scholarships for both school & extracurricular activities. I participated in academic courses at the Irish Centre for Talented Youth, and achieved results in the 99th centile in standardised academic testing. I scored highly on the International Baccalaureate, my main school leaving examination, and proceeded to score well on the Leaving Certificate ten days later, with no extra preparation. I earned a first class honour in my first year at university, and was exempted from sitting exams in my second year, having scored highly in the annual Scholarship Examinations. In my final year, I won the DEPFA prize for the highest marks in the year, as well as a Gold Medal for outstanding achievement. St John Ambulance Brigade: As a volunteer since 2002, I have become qualified in first aid provision and training. I have been active both in ambulance duties, and as a demonstrator on public first aid courses. I am a certified Emergency Medical First Responder. I am currently on a leave of absence from the Brigade, as there is no affiliated organisation in Switzerland. Music: I have achieved Grade IV (Distinction) in Irish Harp, Grade V (Distinction) in Piano, Grade V in Music Theory, and Grade VI (Merit) in Concert Harp. Referees available on request
